Windows 10 19002.1002 Release – Did it Fix The Issues?Donna Marie Padua
The complaints against the previous Windows 10 version has already gone on a month streak but Microsoft still pushed for its new minor update last week. The release was intended for Insiders testing the Windows 10 20H1, but the company’s clientele were hoping it could fix the yet unresolved startup issues on their PCs. A few changes and fixes were reportedly added to the OS but it hasn’t been long since the 19002.1002 launch and we’re again hearing about new problems coming to surface.
Bugs and errors continue to mount. Will they ever be resolved?
Microsoft was plagued with complaints from its large clientele, reporting problems during startup. There were issues too about the start menu and search engine and all of these problems came around just before Microsoft’s October events.
Today, we already have the new Windows 10 19002.1002 and Microsoft released a summary of what’s included in this minor update.
Before that, let’s meet your new Windows 10 19002.1002 OS.
Hello Windows 10 Update
A fresh Windows 10 20H1 preview build is now rolling out for Fast ring Insiders to test. This latest build packs a large volume of bug fixes and performance improvements, but there aren’t any significant new features to speak of apart from its Bluetooth experience is now available for everyone to test.
Windows 10 19002.1002 – What’s New?
The October 15 update mainly focuses on improving the Bluetooth connection from devices like keyboard and mouse to computers and fixing the restart issues which turned out to cause even bigger problems. However, Microsoft detailed everything that should come with the new test version, including:
- The Settings header is now also expanding to more users. The text cursor now works better with Word, Run, Outlook, and other apps.
- The Magnifier centered text cursor option should now work correctly when switching Magnifier modes. And Windows 10 adds some general improvements and bug fixes for the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), and build 19002 fixes a slew of problems.
- Fixes on a couple of issues including VPN connection, brightness setting, mouse pointer visual, non-English display languages and more.
Microsoft is listing the complete set of improvements, fixes, and known issues for Windows 10 Insider Preview build 19002 at the Windows Blog.
Windows 10 19002.1002 – What’s Faulty?
Overall, reports from insiders with fast ring devices mentioned about the update causing Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). It isn’t the intention of Microsoft s their announcement clearly stated the update contains fix to the start/restart bug that caused PCs to get stuck after rebooting.
New posts on the Microsoft community forum claim that the BSOD could be a cause of a proxy driver used by cloud services running on the PC. Uninstalling the applications those services rely on is said to resolve the issue. But of course, this makes the purpose of cloud-based storage totally useless.
If you haven’t updated your Windows 10 OS yet, then there’s no problem. This is the advantage of turning off the auto update on your Windows 10 settings since you can’t downgrade unless you’ll do a clean install of your Windows 10 machine and re-activate it.
Meanwhile, Omnisoft gave a seemingly quick solution to this issue as it published:
“So if you’re stuck unable to restart, open a command line (Start >search for “cmd”>click on “Command line”), and type “shutdown /r /t 0 /f” (no quotes) to force a shutdown. It may take up to 10 minutes, but your machine will eventually restart. From there, check Windows Update, and install the build offered (you may have to update twice, once to the “base build” of 19002.1, and then the fixed 19002.1002). Some users are reporting having to reboot twice, as “Update and restart” still shows after an initial reboot, but you should eventually get there.”
The report said the solution came 3 days after the initial update which said Microsoft was already able to solve the problem. However, newer reports are still coming out pointing out to the issue becoming worse.
Microsoft don’t have any clear timeline on when this is going to be fixed and if the 19002.1002 final version will be flawless when it will be released to the public in November. In the meantime, Microsoft suggested “that “devices in an affected environment do not install this optional non-security update.”
Furthermore, the Microsoft blog mentioned about other concerns involving older versions of anti-cheat software used with games where after updating to the latest 19H1 Insider Preview builds may cause PCs to experience crashes. Using the dark theme reportedly causes the hardware keyboard text prediction candidate window to become unreadable due to black text on a dark grey background.
Other issues they noted include:
- Inconsistencies on status relayed between Settings headerand the main page of Windows Update Settings.
- Bluetooth devices may not reconnect as expected after closing the device lid for certain devices.
We guess, we’ll just have to wait and watch the insiders throw rants for all the hassles they are experiencing right now.
